Welcome to the Austin Newcomers Club New Year!
2024-2025 is going to be another great year, thanks to our many Club volunteers. If you didn’t know, our club is run entirely by our members who generously donate their time and expertise to make all the fun and friendship happen. I want to take a moment to thank all those who voted for the incoming Board of Directors and for all the hard work put in last year by last year’s Board members. Our club would be nothing without volunteers. I know it seems silly to say this here at my very first President’s letter, but anyone interested in serving on the 2025-2026 Board, should talk to current Board members who would be happy to mentor you.
Do you know that every great club thrives on growth? One great way to grow the club is to invite friends, neighbors, and anyone you meet so that they, too, could add to their social life by joining the Austin Newcomers Club. Invite them to 1 or 2 interest group meetings or a luncheon. You don’t have to be new to Austin to join. Many of our members have had a recent change in their lives and are looking for some new, wonderful friends. Another great way to help grow our Club is to start a new Interest Group. If there is something you like to do, I guarantee that there are others who would like to join you. There are so many groups that have gone by the wayside, for one reason or another, like Texas Hold’em, Bridge, Live Music and 4×4 Dinner club. They could be revived with a little love and a volunteer.
As the club grows, there will be changes. Yes, I know change is hard, but a necessary fact of lie. We will keep you apprised of any changes as they happen. One change you can check right now is the newly updated By-laws and Standing Rules. You will find them on the website, on the Members only section. All the changes are for the good of the Club.
In case you don’t know me, here is a little about who your new ANC President is. I was born in Rochester New York and ended up in Austin by way of Oregon and California. I got here as fast as I could! I’ve married to Jerry (the ANC Communications Director) for lots of years and we love to travel, play games and eat and drink wine. Both our kids live in Texas now. Our son is in New Braunfels and our daughter is here in Austin and a member of ANC. I have 4 grandsons and one great grandson, all of whom I love dearly. I am more than happy to tell you all about them! I spent many years as a NICU nurse and am now retired. I fill my time with activities like crocheting for family/friends and charity, Mahjongg and Canasta, Game Night, In Vino Veritas and many other fun activities. Now that you know a little about me, I would love to get to know you. So anytime you see me out and about, introduce yourself!
