Austin Newcomers President’s Letter

August 2024

As always in the Austin summer, it’s hot, hot, hot!  Be sure to stay hydrated and play or work in the shade or air conditioning.  Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are no joke.  Get to know the symptoms and treatments of these dangerous conditions.

With summer coming to a close, it’s time to gear up for a new season filled with changes and opportunities. Kids and grandkids will be returning to school, giving you more time to get together with friends for some fun.  If you are just returning from somewhere cooler, reconnect with old friends and get out there and meet some new friends.  Austin Newcomers has so many wonderful opportunities for fun activities. Why not try something new? Or start a new Interest Group.  If there is something you are interested in, no doubt you will find other members who have had the same thought. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our club!  You may meet your new best friend. The majority of new groups are very successful. Check the Calendar on the website austinnewcomers.com to see what’s happening.

Exciting News!  We are having our Member luncheons at 2 new locations.  Our first luncheon in the 2024-2025 year is in September is at Balcones Country Club.  With new places, come new rules.  The registration is no later than September 11th.  Please register on the Calendar.  You may pay with a credit card (preferred) or check should be sent to the Luncheon Director arriving no later than September 11th.  No late walk-ins or cash will be accepted.  I know this new place will be great.  As usual, we will have a knowledgeable speaker.  The really good news is that the luncheon is still only $40/person.  See the Calendar for details!

In other news, be sure to renew your membership on time.  There is no longer a grace period and after your due date, you may not attend any Austin Newcomer events.  Please do not send any checks to the PO Box listed on the Home Page of the website.  It is only checked occasionally.  Your membership checks should go to the VP of Membership.  To avoid missing out on any fun, renew your membership with a credit card and auto-renew.

If you are not getting the ANC notifications, check your Spam.  If it’s there, just add the email to your address book.  This should solve the problem.

Here’s to a wonderful August filled with new beginnings, cherished memories and plenty of Texas sunshine.  And keep smiling; it may change someone’s day!
