Austin Newcomers Club October President’s Letter

Welcome new friends and old!  You are all a valuable part of our wonderful, active social club, and I thank you for your participation!

Fall is finally approaching with much more tolerable temperatures and some cloudy weather.  Now is a great time to try some of our fun outdoor events.  Happy Trails will be hiking the Spicewood Vally Trail, and the Hearty Hikers will be enjoying the Hamilton Greenbelt.  Try out our new Interest Group: Random Happenings by joining the Austin Duck Tour. (No, we aren’t watching ducks!  It’s a fun amphibious vehicle.)

If reading a good book is more your style, does “Poverty by America” (by Matthew Desmond), “Die around Sundown” (by Mark Pryor) or “Supremacy: AI, Chat GPT” (by Parmy Olson) sound interesting to you?  These are titles of the book selection for our October Book Clubs. Check out one and discuss it with other members at one of our many book clubs.

If meeting new friends and old while dining on a delicious meal makes you hungry, check out Lunch Bunch at Dr B’s, or come to our member Luncheon at Balcones Country Club and listen to our speaker Jeff Jones, Sports Anchor for KTUV.

Find all these fun activities and more on the Austin Newcomers Calendar.  You must sign up on the Calendar to register and secure your spot for all our activities.  It’s easy, just click Register Now!

Other things happening around Austin this fall include Austin City Limits Music Festival (ACL) at Zilker Park, Pumpkin Night at Pioneer Farms, Haunted Austin Ghost Tours and Austin Symphony Orchestra’s Halloween Children’s Concert. More information can be found online.

Enjoy the cooler weather and Happy Halloween!
