Margaret Kaur Gooding serves as the Philanthropy Officer for the Austin region for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.
Margaret is responsible for prospecting, soliciting, and stewarding donors capable of making major gifts to support the mission of Planned Parenthood, providing patient-centered, evidence-based sexual and reproductive healthcare and education to all Texans. She is also the primary administrator of the Austin Community Board, comprised of 25 passionate advocates for reproductive healthcare, education, and justice here in Austin. Margaret has over 10 years of experience in fundraising across the specialties of institutional giving, grant writing, major gifts, planned giving, and donor relations. Margaret is also a trained oral historian, receiving her MA in Oral History from Columbia University in 2015, and has served as the Chair of the US Oral History Association Fundraising Committee. An active and enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation, she developed the A’Haklo intergenerational story collection curriculum with her mother, a fellow oral historian, to train members of the Chickasaw Nation in oral history best practices with the goal of gathering the stories of our elders in collaboration with the Holisso Cultural Center in Ada, OK. Her areas of concentration include education, public policy, American politics, agriculture, food, women’s health, indigenous rights & activism. Much of her work focuses on the concept of sense-of-place, particularly in communities that have experienced removal or migration. Margaret and her husband moved to Austin in 2016 and are enjoying raising their kids (3 & 5) in this dynamic and beautiful City.
Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas has been providing trusted healthcare and education in Texas for 90 years. Each year, they serve nearly 75,000 Texans in Central, North, and West Texas. Planned Parenthood operates 4 health centers in Austin, providing birth control, including IUDs and implants, testing and treatments for transmitted infections, screenings for breast and cervical cancer, treatment for urinary tract infections, menopause care, and other reproductive healthcare services.
