Fall is my favorite time of the year with the cooler weather, the prospects of holiday fun and so many reasons to be grateful. It’s hard to believe that it’s November already! The weather is still strangely warm, but the mornings are cool and perfect for a lovely morning walk. Joining either Happy Trails or Hearty Hikers is a great way to get outside to get some fresh air and sunshine.
Coming up on November16-17, the Texas Book Festival will take place on the Capitol’s grounds. You may find your next favorite read. We have a variety book groups (men’s, women’s, mystery) in Austin Newcomers Club (ANC). If you’re a reader and like discussing the books, give one of the book groups a try.
Foodies might enjoy the Austin Food and Wine fest on November 1-3 at Auditorium Shores. Or better yet, join us for the Lunch Bunch, a group that is always trying new and interesting places. There will be NO Member Luncheon in November, but we’ll be back for a Holiday Lunch Party in December.
We have so many fun activities in ANC and I hope you will consider trying at least one new one this month. Check out the ANC Calendar and sign-up online for a fun event. You may meet your new best friend!
For me, November is a time for reflection and appreciation. I love the fall weather with the leaves changing colors and the cool breezes. It’s fun watching the squirrels scurrying around getting ready for winter. Although, I’m not crazy about the fact they plant acorns and nuts all over my yard, it reminds me that we all need to be prepared for bad weather and emergencies.
I am eternally grateful for the many dedicated ANC volunteers who keep this club organized and running. None of this would be happening without their hard work. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We are always in need of new volunteers to help out. Let me know if you would like to be part of the gears that make this big machine work.
I am always grateful for my wonderful family-My hubby Jerry who has loved me for so many years and works tirelessly as the Communications Director for ANC; for my son Adam and daughter Stephany, their spouses and children. I am so fortunate to have them living nearby. And I am grateful for having moved to the Austin area and the opportunity to meet so many wonderful new friends. I am happy to serve as your club President!
Enjoy the sweater weather,
Bev the Prez
(Beverly Tallinger ANC President)
