Austin Newcomers Club President’s Letter

March 2026

March is upon us with the lovely spring weather!  This is one of the best times of year to be in Austin!  The temperatures are pleasantly warm with beautiful blue skies and occasional rain. I am so glad you’re here and part of our wonderful Club.  Austin Newcomers would be nothing without our great members.  As always, there are so many fun activities on our Calendar!  Join some friends at an event or try a new one and meet some new friends!  Check out the Calendar and sign up today!  Encourage a friend or neighbor to join us by doing “Try an Event!”  They can try one event for free before joining the Club to continue the fun and friendship.

Our March Member Luncheon will feature a speaker from TexSAR, the volunteer search and rescue organization who did amazing work during the floods last year.  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about what they do and thank them for their service!  The Luncheon is March 18th at Balcones Country Club. Be sure to sign up online to reserve your seat.

Be on the lookout for a very exciting event coming up in April!  The Fashion Show Luncheon is back!  Members will model fashions by Chico’s, just in time to update your summer wardrobe.  As always, the luncheon will be at the Balcones Country ClubAll members of the community are welcome to join us for this luncheon and fashion show.  Invite your friends and neighbors!  This is a perfect time for someone new to “Try an Event “.  The fee is just $40/person and includes rolls, salad, plated lunch, dessert and tea or coffee. Please sign up online.

Along with the warm temperatures and the rain comes the annual explosion of wildflowers throughout the area!  March to May is the best time to view the wildflowers along the highway, in fields and at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.  The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes as the National Wildflower Research Center in 1982 and later renamed the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in 1997. It is a signature piece of Mrs. Johnson’s environmental legacy. Lady Bird Johnson was known for her involvement in beautifying the Texas capital by planting wildflowers along the highways.   The Wildflower Center is a beautiful place to walk and enjoy the beauty of nature.  They usually have a beautiful bluebonnet garden-the perfect background for family pictures!

The iconic South by Southwest (SXSW) is a great way to experience it all-music, films, comedy and innovation.  March 12-18 in Austin, TX, is a 7-day premier event celebrating the convergence of technology, film, and music, featuring over 850 sessions, 4,400+ performers, and 460+ film screenings. The 40th-anniversary event features lower badge prices and a new “pop-up” village format during the Convention Center’s renovation.

If the Cowboy theme is more to your liking, Austin Rodeo takes place March 13-28.  There will be Pro Rodeo bull riding, mutton bustin’, barrel racing and more!  Carnival rides and fair food will complete your cowboy experience.

Get out there and meet a new friend!

Happy Spring!
