Happy New Year! Welcome to 2025!
We’re in for another exciting year in Austin Texas. The Austin Newcomers Club (ANC) activities are back in full swing. January is one of Austin’s driest months so it’s a lovely time of the year with temperatures in the mid 60’s. Prefect weather to try out one of our Hiking Groups. If it gets a little chilly and you want to stay inside, check the ANC Calendar for our fun Interest Groups like, MahJongg, Canasta, Book Cubs, and Lunch Bunch. ANC has something for everyone. If you don’t see something that you like to do, the Club is always open to suggestions for new groups. If you like Poker, Biking or anything else that’s fun, I guarantee that you will find others in the ANC that like doing those things too. Talk to a Board member to find out how to get a group started. It’s up to our members to help the Club thrive on fun and camaraderie. All our groups are open to all the Club members. Your 2025 resolution could be to try something new. You will find the club members to be friendly and welcoming, since we’ve all been the new person in a new place at one time.
Outside the Club, Austin always has a lot going on. Music fans should take advantage of free music at multiple venues around Austin during the first week of January. If running is your thing, lace up your running shoes on January 19th. The Austin International Half Marathon (formerly the 3M Half Marathon) will take place and finishing at the Texas State Capital. There will be live music along the course and at the finish line It’s so exciting to be cheering on these amazing athletes at the finish line!
Starting this month, our Nominating Committee will be recruiting member for Austin Newcomers Club Board of Directors. Whether you are new to the Club or a long-time member, it’s a great way to get involved and help assure that our Club remains strong an interesting. Be kind to them when they call and please consider taking on a position. All the job descriptions can be found on the website. We are currently in the process of updating them, so watch for the 2025 versions. Positions are for 1 year terms and training is provided. Volunteers are the heart-blood of Austin Newcomers! To the current Board and volunteers, thank you for all you do!
