Austin Newcomers Club President’s Letter

February 2026

When Valentine’s Day rolls around, it often comes wrapped in roses, heart-shaped chocolates, and romance.  But there’s another kind of love that deserves just as much celebration: friendship.

Friends are the people who know our embarrassing stories (or are willing to listen to them and laugh with you) and love us anyway. While romantic love may steal the spotlight on February 14th, friendship is the steady, everyday love that carries us through all seasons.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to pause and appreciate those friendships. It doesn’t have to be extravagant—sometimes a simple message saying “I’m really glad you’re in my life” means more than any gift. A shared coffee, a handwritten note, or even just a smile can make all the difference in the world.

So, grab a friend and check out the fun February offerings on the Austin Newcomers Calendar!

  • Root on your favorite team at the Super Bowl Party on February 8th. Enjoy snacks and watch the football game and the commercials with friends, new and old.
  • Or try the new Movie Night in the Daylight (Cinema North) on February 9th. No need for nighttime driving, just lively discussion about the assigned movie you have watched on your own.
  • Game Night on February 14th will have a Valentine’s vibe. Think hearts and chocolate. Games will be easy and fun and maybe even Valentine based. Pink, Red and Bubbly wine provided by the host-this month only!
  • Happy Hour is a Mardi Gras theme on the 17th. It’s always a fun time to mingle. Get out your purple, green and gold to look the part.
  • Our newest Interest GroupBunco! is still looking for a few more players. This easy dice game is a great way to make new friends. The first game is February 19th.

Check out the online Calendar to sign up for these and many other activities in February.  Whether it’s your first time or your hundredth, you are always welcome at Austin Newcomers Club activities!  All participants must register online!

So, this Valentine’s Day, let’s expand the definition of love. Celebrate the friends who make ordinary days brighter and hard days easier. After all, friendship isn’t just a part of life, it’s one of its greatest gifts.

Happy Valentine’s Day to the friends who feel like family!
