Happy Spring fellow Austinites! We are so glad you have joined us! April is one of the loveliest times of the year in Austin. The weather is getting sunny and nicely warm, but not too hot. Take advantage of it to do some outdoor activities. Although the drought has taken a toll on the volume of flowers (unlike last year’s super bloom!), the wildflowers are still in bloom. They can be found along the highways, in fields and in yards. And Austinites DO love their Blue Bonnets! Be careful when trying to get that perfect picture and only photograph in areas that ensure your safety. Jumping out of your car on the highway for a photo is never a good idea. Check out the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center for a nice background display of these favorite flowers. Austin Newcomers Club offers some nice outdoor activities. Take a 45-minute walk with Happy Trails Interest Group at Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metropolitan Park on April 18th. Or take a more challenging hike on April 25th on the Barton Creek Trail with the Hearty Hikers Interest Group, followed by lunch at the Pint House. Also, the City of Austin has many activities throughout all of April. Eeyore’s birthday party on April 25 is a fun free-spirited fest that is free at Pease Park. If running is your forte, the Cap 10K may be for you on April 12th. Run through unique cityscape of Austin and follow up with the Finish Line Festival. Ever been told to go fly a kite? Here’s your opportunity to do just that! The ABC Kite Fest is on April 11th in Zilker Park. Purchase a kite or make your own to fly in the festival or just go watch the sky filled with amazing kites! It’s all fun and all free to participate.
Spring has sprung. Take advantage of the wonderful weather to try something new with Austin Newcomers Club and meet some new friends!
