Austin Newcomers Club President’s Letter
August 2025
Dear Austin Newcomers,
Welcome, we are so glad you are here and have joined our Club!
Even though August is our hottest month, Austin is still the coolest place to live! Austin Newcomers Club (ANC) has several cool things to do. Check out our Calendar and sign up online for one of our fun activities. Signing up helps the Chairpersons plan for the number of members attending the event. Even though several Interest Groups are still on vacation for the summer there is plenty to do-play Canasta or Mahjongg, attend one of our many Book Clubs or check out a movie Cinema North or South. And don’t miss the very popular Happy Hour event on August 12th.
Outside the ANC, Long Center has free concerts on the lawn through August 14, the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series continues and the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) team is at the Moody Center August 22-24th. You still have time (this closes August 17th) to see the Dinosaurs in the Wild at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center like I did. It’s lots of fun to take the grandkids or just watch the reactions of other children who are visiting.
With school starting again and freeing up all that time you’ve spent travelling or with your kids and grandkids, hopefully you will have plenty of time to join our activities. We have a couple new Interest Groups starting in the fall- “Power of the Pen”, a creative writing group and “Random Happenings”, a group that will check out fun things to do in Austin! Stay tuned for more information. If there is something you’d like to do that is not on the Calendar, (like Bunco, Mexican Train, Texas Hold’em, Disc golf, Golf, Bowling, Bridge, Bocce or other great ideas) consider starting an Interest Group. Being a Chairperson isn’t difficult and we have a training coming up on August 21st for both new and current Chairpersons. The Club will provide you with answers to your questions and the support you need.
Be a cool,
Bev the Prez
