Humanity's oldest and continuously practiced system of health and healing is acupuncture.  The treatment originated in China thousands of years ago, but over the past two decades its popularity has grown significantly within the United States.  Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through the skin, to various depths at strategic points on the body.  Acupuncture is used as a stand-alone treatment for symptomatic relief for a variety of diseases and conditions including all kinds of pain; headaches, fibromyalgia, migraines, asthma, allergies and osteoarthritis.  However, it is also increasingly being used in conjunction with more conventional Western medical treatments such as controlling nausea after surgery or chemotherapy.

Please join Austin Newcomers in welcoming Lisa Lin as speaker for our August luncheon.  Mrs. Lin is the co-founder and President of Texas College of Traditional Medicine located here in Austin.  This college was the first in the State of Texas accredited to teach acupuncture.   The college has been in operation for 18 years and is Texas’ premier educational institute for Chinese Medicine.  Mrs. Linn has had quite a distinguished career as a practitioner, clinician and healer.  In recognition of her pioneering role in acupuncture and in acupuncture education, Lisa Lin was appointed by then-Governor Ann Richards to be Chairwoman of the first Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners' Education Committee.
