Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve, Tuesday, September 14th
9:00 AM departure for carpool, 9:30 AM meet at preserve
Cost: $10/car (let’s carpool)
Hamilton Pool Preserve is part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. It is home to the Golden-cheeked Warbler, an endangered species that breeds in Central Texas. The hiking trail will take us to the Pedernales River, which is 1.6 miles round trip. The trail is scenic, narrow moderately steep with some tree roots and rocks along the way. The hike to the waterfall and pool is .5 miles from the hiking trail. This collapsed
grotto and canyon was formed by thousands of years of water erosion. Lush plant communities, a variety of wildlife species and natural shelter attracted the areas first inhabitants. It will be a welcome treat to hang out there after our hike. We will picnic at tables near the ranger station or on the sand at the pool.
Bring: water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes with good traction, picnic lunch (no glass), blanket for picnicking, swim suits (swimming is permitted only when water quality meets Texas Department of Health standards). Sorry, no pets allowed at the preserve.
